Room was furnished in a pleasant, modern style; it was reasonably-sized and the decor was tasteful and up-to-date. The bed was comfortable. En suite bathroom was fine, too, with a shower that worked well, with hot water.
Fire alarm went off at 10.45.p.m. on our second night; apparently one of the guests in another room had had a shower which triggered the smoke detector. We were told that this happens quite often. There was noise in the bar downstairs until after midnight. The fridge was locked, so we had to ask for milk for our tea, despite being informed in the literature that this would be supplied.

The breakfast was abundant and wonderful and there was a great selection of reasonably priced food. The location was great and fab, in a cute pedestrian area of Southampton, its a plus. And we where just next door to a slope, bar/restaurant, and the big shops.

Staff at the White Star were really pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them including helping to carry bags for you if you wanted. The food was exceptional, as much as possible was locally sourced and organic. Rooms were modern and very clean, bathroom we had was lovely and really nice toileteries. The White Star is located is a busy street with other restaurants and music is played there but at midnight the music is stopped and it is quiet then enabling a good nights sleep. A really good find.

I'm afraid to say we had two double rooms at this hotel and had another one booked for in August, however we are going to cancel it as we found the rooms to be very hot and noisy so we couldn't open the windows of a night. When we wanted to check out we not only had our room food and drinks to pay for they tried to charge us for the people that had stayed the night before as well. There bill was an extra £100 on top of ours. We had to wait three quarters of an hour for poached egg on toast and an omelette I really do not think that is good enough with no explanation why.so no we won't stay there ever again and I certainly would not recommend it either.I might add this is the first time I have ever complained about a hotel.

Old times atmosphere linked to ocean liners. Very good food at restaurant , excellent dinner. Chose it to spend our last night in England prior to embarking on Queen Mary2.
Lack of lift , stairs heavy for some. However, staff very willing to help with luggage. Check out at 11am is somewhat too early , 12noon would be more reasonable.

The hotel has a history with White Star Cruises, the Titanic and her crew. Great walking distance to town sites.
The double bed was small and there was no air conditioning. It was unseasonably warm.

This place has a fantastic location near a cozy pub and the waterfront, Old Town, and Ocean City.
